SMCC > Collections > Textiles > A to Z > Fire Brigades Museum Fire Brigades MuseumA very small museum with an interesting collection, which shows firemen's uniforms and how they have changed from the 19th century to present day. For instance how the showy, woollen uniform with its shiny brass buttons has become the fire retardant, utilitarian, Velcro fastening one of today. There are also a number of collapsible linen buckets, canvas fire hoses, a collection of helmets and a range of breathing apparatus (of which many component parts are textile).
