SMCC > Collections > Textiles > A to Z > Guildford House Gallery Guildford House GalleryGuildford House Gallery is unusual in that it focuses on collecting contemporary craftwork. All the exhibitions, including textile exhibitions, are temporary. Previews of these can be seen via the website which has pictures of most of the exhibits. The textiles collection has examples of a wide variety of sewing techniques including a very informative and interesting contemporary sampler made up of various squares of different embroidery techniques, beadwork, patchwork, knot work etc. (Information on the sampler and picture is included in this pack). Artists involved in the creation of the sampler would be willing to come in and explain the techniques used. Guildford House Gallery has a separate education space where students can study exhibits from Guildford Borough's collection. This education space could be used for lectures (It holds up to 50 people) and also for craft activities. A project based on comparing the contemporary sampler at the Gallery with older more traditional samplers at Guildford Museum is included in this pack.
