SMCC > Collections > Textiles > Introduction IntroductionThis pack is designed to enable teachers of Art, Textiles and Technology to use Surrey Museums' rich, varied and extensive textile collections to support National Curriculum, GCSE and A level topics. It is important to note that smaller local museums are often more accessible to students - in that they are closer to home for repeat visits, and also that they respond to enquiries more quickly because they do not have so many. The pack includes information on the different textile collections in each of the museums, the facilities available to students, and lectures or workshops offered, in order to help them to identify the areas most relevant to their studies. There is information for students on how to get the best from their visit and how to handle the textiles. It is important to contact a museum before you visit and to make an appointment to view the collection. Please note that items for projects may not be readily available and staff may need to make special arrangements for you to view them, which they would be happy to do given notice. Some of the ideas can also be adapted for the primary classroom. The projects included demonstrate ways in which a visit to one or more of the museums in Surrey can be integrated with work at school or college. We hope that you will enjoy visiting and working with Surrey's Museums and Galleries. If you have any questions about or comments on the pack please contact us.
