SMCC > Collections > Textiles > A to Z > Shere Museum Shere MuseumThis small museum has a good collection of old knitting and sewing patterns along with a 1950s sewing pattern catalogue from 'Weldons' and some interesting needlecraft books from the 1920s and 30s. The most valuable piece is a Tudor felt hat, lined with silk. There is a large collection of machine embroidered cigarette cards, an example of tape lace with its pattern attached and a fifth scale model of a 20s dress on a mannequin, perfectly made, hand stitched with proper fastenings and pearlised buttons. (Made to show an actress how her finished dress would look). From the Second World War there is a belt, made by folding together chewing gum wrappers. There is a collection of cobbler's tools and rug making tools with two catalogues. There are also examples of crochet lace, samplers, a cloth and paper scrapbook, a stole made of tie painted fabric, and a Tudor leather child's shoe found in a local house. There are many more items not displayed but which can be accessed if the curator is contacted prior to your visit. Contact details and opening times
