Identifies the problems and gives practical advice on the detection, prevention and control of insect pests in museum stores. The major pest species are illustrated and described together with strategies for prevention and control of damage by integrated use of physical and chemical methods.

This new and thoroughly revised edition is an essential reference for all those involved in the preservation of the heritage.

Gives information on aims and background of organisations, data, on publications, technical advice, sources of grants.

A practical guide to teaching about conservation of objects

As far as conservation is concerned, many of the treatments here would not be recommended. However, this is still a useful source of other information.

CON 16 CONSERVATION SOURCEBOOOK: FOR CONSERVATORS, CRAFTSMEN, AND THOSE WHO HAVE OBJECTS IN THEIR CARE / (Crafts Advisory Committee, 1979)

Likely to need up-dating but a useful archive reference.

CON 17 THE MUSEUM ENVIRONMENT THOMPSON (Butterworth Series on Conservation in the Arts, Archaeology and Architecture, (1981)

For conservators and museum curators concerned with the damage effects of light, humidity and air pollution on objects or exhibits, providing ideas on how to minimise damage.

CON 18 THE CONSERVATION OF ANTIQUITIES AND WORKS OF ART: TREATMENT, REPAIR AND PRESERVATION / H.J. PLENDERLEITH AND A.E.A. WERNER, 1976

Treatments and methods examined in this book are not considered best conservation practice these days, but this can still be a valuable tool for conservation research into past treatments and for general materials research. CON 19 GUIDEBOOK OF RESTORERS / (Guild of Master Craftsman Publications Ltd.) undated. The sources metioned in this directory are likely to be out of date but may still be a useful archive reference.

CON 20/ MEND IT! A COMPLETE GUIDE TO REPAIRERS AND REF 16 RESTORERS / RICHARD BALL (Orbis, London 1985) A list of reference for the repair, conservation or restoration form books and paper to equipment or objects.

CON 21 CLIMATE CONTROL IN MUSEUMS / (ICCROM and the Institute of Archaeology of the University of London, July, 1986)

A hand book based on material taught in the Preservation Conservation in Museums course which focuses on preventative preventative measures.

CON 22 RISK MANAGEMENT FOR MUSEUMS / (SBJ Stephenson, Insurance Brokers, Association of Independent Museums February 2000)

CON 23 CONSERVATION CONCERNS: AGUIDE FOR COLLECTORS AND CURATORS/ KONSTANZE BACHMANN (Cooper Hewitt, National Museum of Design, the Smithsonian Institution,1992)

The information in this book is generally available. The authors are presenting information and guidelines to the best of the professional expertise and in keeping with accepted practises in conservation.

CON 24 CONSERVATION SKILLS.

Judgement, Method and Decision Making/ Chris Caple (Routledge, London 2000) This book provides an overview of the issues facing conservation issues of historic and artistic works.

CON 25 ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT: GUIDELINES FOR MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES / MAY CASSAR (Routledge, 1995)

This book sets out the theory and practice of achieving an appropriate museum environment for both collections and people.

CON 27 MANAGING THE PRESERVATION OF LIBRARY AND ARCHIVE COLLECTIONS IN HISTORIC BUILDINGS (National Preservation Office, 2002)

This leaflet aims to help librarians and archivists working in a historic setting to manage preservation projects and achive results. It focuses mainly on the environmental problems common in historic buildings and outlines ways of tackling these.

CON 26 GUIDELINES ON POLLUTION CONTROL IN MUSEUM BUILDINGS (Museums Association, 2000)

Covers information such as the identification and origin of damaging pollutants, collections-based methodology (risk assessment, obtaining pollution data, and choosing an appropriate solution) and includes worked examples of the methodology.

This leaflet covers an introduction to moulds and rots, monitoring, control measures, storage guidelines, treatment of mould outbreaks and provides additional sources of information and useful website addresses.

CON 34 BUILDING BLOCKS FOR A PRESERVATION POLICY (National Preservation Office, 2001)

This leaflet covers what a preservation policy is; why is one needed; what needs to be taken into account when formulating a policy; acquisition, retention, storage, access, use and security; other library functions; resources, and formulating a policy.

CON 35 PACKING AND MOVING LIBRARY AND ARCHIVE COLLECTIONS (National Preservation Office, 2005)

This leaflet covers areas such as why move collections?; Risks involved; Planning; Staff & Volunteers; Buildings; Shelving; the Collection; Equipment; Cleaning; Packing; packing Instructions; Moving; and a list of supplies and suppliers.

CON 36 AIM FOCUS 13: BASIC REMEDIAL CONSERVATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING (Association of Independent Museums, 2000)

CON 37 OLD POISONS, NEW PROBLEMS: A Museum Resource for Managing Contaminated Cultural Materials (AltaMira Press, 2005)

Culmination of a number of essays addressing the issues of contaminated cultural materials in museums and provides multiple spot tests specifically developed for testing pesticide residues on museum artefacts.
