Information for people working in museums
|
SMCC > Information for people working in museums > RIDDOR RIDDOR - accidents and deaths in museums and galleriesReporting accidents and ill health at work is a legal requirement. The information enables the enforcing authorities to identify where and how risks arise and to investigate serious accidents. The enforcing authorities can then help and advise you on preventive action to reduce injury, ill health and accidental loss - much of which is uninsurable. A place of work means a place where employed staff (not necessarily employed by you) or self employed people work: a volunteer run museum can thus be a place of work as temporary workers, consultants (including, for example, conservators), SMCC and regional agency staff will be working there. If staff member, volunteer, or a member of the public is injured at a museum or gallery, if there is a dangerous occurrence there, or if a doctor tells you you have a work-related disease or condition, then you need to report it to the Incident Contact Centre. For full information on how to do this and further information on reporting an accident or death in the workplace visit the RIDDOR site.
